Grandpa – so many things to thank you for but we’ll try to pick just a fewThank you for:
Your Smile
Grandpa’s face seemed to light up when he saw his Grandchildren & Great-grandchildren. It was obvious that he loved the little ones as he would poke them with his cane to try to get them to smile
Your Open Affection
I remember very vividly kisses on the cheek and of course the “ear meat” that he loved so much
Your example of peaceful response to times of war through your work in the alternative service
Your Support
Whether it be at sporting events, graduations, birthdays – you were always there
Your gentle spirit and re-assuring presence - even when you didn’t have much to say, we knew you were there for us
Your love of singing, which is passed down from generation to generation.
The way you graciously accepted our help…whether it was letting us carry your chair at the mountains, helping you get to your tree stand, or letting us help you with some of your decisions, you did that graciously
Being a Grandpa not just to us, but to our spouses – who remember your storytelling and funny hunting stories from 40 years ago.
That shoulder shrug, that said “what-ever” …an easy - going spirit, an acceptance of God’s will for our future, an understanding that God knows best and will provide for us
Being a person that we all respected, not because you demanded respect, but because of who you were as a person. Thank you for being our role model
Thank you that your last words to each of us this week was “ I love you”
Thank you for Living in Faith and making God the foundation to which our Family is built, for being a father to your children so that they could then be fathers to us
